My mom lives in the state of Florida and she lost her husband my dad and she now has care givers come to her home and she is running out of money to pay for them to come to her home !! She doesn't have the insurance that paid for this care ! It has run out plus she has this man that does things like her taxes and that is all that I know about but he gets paid a monthly amount of money and he doesn't do anything for her on a monthly basis at lease nothing that we really know about at all ! So we do not understand why she keeps paying money to him on a monthly basis we were told that he is coming to her home and bring some one to talk to her about a reverse mortgage and her condo is paid for in full plus she will not really have any money to pay any kind of money to pay back and she doesn't want to lose her home plus she told us that she has it going to me when she dies and no I am not worried about not getting it but we have been told that they will take everything that belongs to my mother and my father! and we were told that they will take the home if she doesn't pay the payment and or pay back the money at all! All we know is that she lives far away from us; and we can't go live with her because I work in the state of Indiana and I have no kind of money to pay for her care givers at all. I am a disabled veteran also my girlfriend is disabled with a spinal cord injury she said that she would go take care of her if she could but we have to try to get her home fixed and sold before she can even do anything at all period! Plus it is really kind and nice of my girlfriend to want to do this for my mom she just loves my mom as her own!! I am adopted and I am my mom's only child and I worry about her we do not know what to do about getting help for her she should not have to give up her home to anyone at all plus she should not be talked into getting a reverse mortgage that she can't afford to pay for or to end up losing her home to anyone after she dies!! Her home and the things she wants to go to me and to anyone else should be allowed to be given to them like she wants so we dont know what to do we are trying to see if there is any government things that we can get for her to help her with the care givers does anyone know what we can do for her in the state of florida? Please let us know thank you kindly god bless everyone!

Mom will have to use all of her assets to pay for care. When those assets are gone, she can then apply for Medicaid. She cannot hold onto assets to leave them to who she wants. Get an elder care lawyer and find out who the man is that is being paid monthly. Find out what he is supposed to be doing to get paid.

David the only thing I could advise is to retain an elder care attorney, but ultimately all of Mom's assets will go towards her care until Medicaid takes over. But she needs a good attorney in FL who knows what to do in her situation.

I agree, speak to a social worker.

I hope you find a resolution

Medicaid is different in every state but in New York, after we went through the process to apply for in-home Medicaid care, we found that Medicaid only allows you to pay a caregiver $10 an hour. Adding any money to that amount "under the table" is Medicaid fraud. So actually using the benefit was problematic.

Call the Administration for Aging office in her county. You may be able to get her to speak to a social worker that can tell her what services are available to her. Reverse mortgages are not as bad as they used to be but your mom would do herself a favor if she ran any agreement past a lawyer before she signed it.

HI, David.
How much in-home care does your mother need?

Se can apply to Medicaid, which would pay for some in home care but it would not be around the clock care.

If she needs 24/7 care, she would need to go into an assisted living facility or a nursing home, depending on her needs.

Is the person she is paying money to monthly a geriatric care manager hired by your mother? Have you spoken to him to get an idea of what his role in your mom's life is?

End of life care is very costly. Using the equity in one's home to pay for care, either through a reverse mortgage or by selling the home is pretty common among people of your mothers age group.
