What is a good way to clear a wooden ramp of ice in winter months?

The streets may be clear and driveable but I need to get my mom out of the house. The ramp has been frozen with 1", 3", to 5" inches this winter. Then there is the shoveling... I am late 60's with arthritis and this has been very difficult for me the year. Come on spring!

There are environmental ice melt products out there. You can usually find them in pet stores. This is pretty safe to melt ice on wood ramps. . . further removal is usually pretty easy.
