If you find no Skilled Nursing Facilities that would like a Volunteer check the local Hospice in your area. Hospice is always looking for Volunteers. You can do anything from Office work to working in the Patient Care Center or being a Volunteer that sees people in their homes or in a facility. And the Hospice I Volunteer with I do office tasks but I also Volunteer Bake for the patients and the Hospice also has a program "Pet Peace of Mind" if a patient brings in their pet a Volunteer will walk a dog, for a patient at home we can take a pet to the vet or groomer. And we also look to "re-home" pets if no family can take a patients pet.
One of the reasons this is important is that Medicare REQUIRES Volunteers. " Volunteers must provide day-to-day administrative and or direct patient care services in an amount that, at a minimum, equals 5% of the total patient care hours of all paid Hospice employees and contract staff."
