I live in an area where music is a big part of our community. Many musicians volunteer to play music for residents in hospitals, facilities and hospice patients. The residents love it. Music is a universal language.
I have seen a violinists play for people while they ate dinner. My neighbor plays piano in the lounge area for residents.
There are choirs who sing gospel music on Sundays.
Whether a person plays by themselves, a guitar, a violin or a flute or a group plays together it is appreciated.
You can also read to those who have poor vision.
If the facility allows you to bring sweets to the residents, you can bring home baked cookies, cakes or pies.
You can offer to shop for their favorite hand lotions or other items from the drugstore.
If you are talented in art, you can teach an art class. There is an incredible artist in our community that teaches art to seniors. Or teach a crochet or knitting.
Awhile back there was a woman who did what you are going to do and she often brought her daughter with her. The young girl had a sweet idea. She went to each resident and asked them what they wanted most.
This young girl wanted to fulfill their wishes. None of the residents asked for anything elaborate. They asked for things like Oreo cookies, new socks, hand lotion, etc. The young girl raised money to buy for everyone who had requested a gift.
