Anyone gotten VA assistance for surviving spouse. Trying to get dad's DD214. We have faxed info we have, filled out their form and listed it as medical emergency and still no DD214. We have to have to do this to start the process. Mom is in a rehab but we feel if she can go home we are going to have to have more assistance and her money is limited. Any suggestions?

Find Care & Housing
I am full time caregiver for my mom-in-law to be. I am at home with her all the time and make sure she is fed, I bathe her, make sure she receives her medication, clean her home, feed her cat, cook for her, etc. She receives social security based on her deceased husband's work history, who was a Veteran. I am disabled and on SSI, and really need financial help because between the two of us, we cannot pay the bills, house is uninsured due to lack of funds, and now my one and only vehicle is broken down and I have no means of transportation, for grocery shopping, going to the pharmacy, etc. What, if anything, can I do to rectify this situation? It is hard to depend on the kindness of others, as a lot of the time, they are unavailable. Without transportation, what would I do in case of emergency? What can be done about having no insurance on her home? We are badly in need of a substantial amount of funds to rectify these situations. Is there some sort of fund or grant available to fix these problems as soon as possible? We should not go through another hurricane season without proper insurance, and I really need transportation in order to maintain her level of care. Her son, who has been diligently looking for work for several years now, is still unemployed, and his health is getting worse so I believe he is no longer employable. PLEASE HELP!!! What can we do - where can we turn. She and her husband worked their butts off paying for this house and maintaining it. I can't afford anyone to cut grass or do the gardening, or the rest of the maintenance involved in keeping up with her home. Any help would be so very, very appreciated. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS US ALL.
