Thanks to my friends here on AC I was informed..

My Mom was hallucinating, slurring her speech.. It scared the crap out of me.. After a trip to ER via 911..I told them I thought it was an UTI.. It was.. I have never experienced these symptoms from a UTI and would not have known what was going on without info. from other members....

I did question if she was slipping into the next stage of dementia? Who knows? It's so confusing. One day she can be alert and her memory and abilities are decent. Then within 8 hours she's less alert, it's so up and down...

It's all a learning process with answers being gray..

My Mom had a UTI as well and it was causing all kinds of issues, all of them frightening, mimicking stroke symptoms, delusion, etc. It was treated pretty quickly and after that, it was amazing how she rebounded. Mom does have dementia, which is not curable of course and that is an entirely different issue....but has her good days and bad days from that.....yesterday was a very bad day...and then, like flipping a switch, she had an excellent day today....huge emotional roller coaster around here....but i surely take advantage of the moments we have together on the good days. :)

Nana, my mom too has had stroke symptoms with a UTI and I wasn't the only one that thought so. Emergency crew, as well as medical staff in ER. Mom had 7 or 8 UTI'ss in about 9 months. Finally took her to a uro-gynecologist that has her on some new meds that have stopped the recurrence of them.

UTI's are dangerous and not discussed enough. I thought my mom had a stroke- slurred speech, incoherent- UTI! Antibiotics and lots of water- most elderly don't drink enough. Dementia is separate issue and manageable. Good luck dear- hope we helped!

Untreated UTI can be fatal. Dementia is a whole separate issue and antibiotics will not cure it.
