Older people are not receptive to change. My sisters wanted my mother to shop on line but my mother did not want to shop on line. She wanted to look at the sales in the weekly circulars for the neighborhood supermarkets.
She also got very peeved that we did not want to do this task for her any more . So that was another issue for her manufactured drama. I came in every other month to visit to do errands like this but my sisters were busy living their every day lives and would have loved to outsource this. And she was mad that shopping was not happening on Thursdays all the time the way she wanted it to be.
Eventually my mother let her caregivers do some shopping at the supermarket. They would also shop for her at their local stores if she gave them a list. So that’s how we worked that out. Those women were a godsend.
I'm wondering if you ask because your loved one, regects any suggestions you make, and dislikes anything new.
If this is the case, I would just tell them this is what we are doing from now on because I have other things to do, and if they balk about it, put your boundaries up and tell them this is just the way it has to be. Maybe, before you go that far, maybe ask them to try it, first, just to see how it goes.
If you're feeling like you're doing to much, you have to set boundaries.
Amazon Fresh also has free grocery delivery with a $35 order for people with a Amazon Prime membership. That's another option. It might also be possible for someone with an Amazon Prime membership to have groceries to be delivered to another address. I've had other things (not groceries) to be delivered to another address several times.
What exactly is the issue ? LO wants to drive and should not ? Or LO wants you to take them to the store and you are pressed for time ? Some LOs just want to be taken out often and try to find excuses which is not always feasible , plus you need your own time for yourself .
Does LO have trouble making decisions while in the store ? Does LO want to go to the store daily for one or two things at a time ? My mother did that . She could no longer make a grocery list due to dementia. She just thought of one or two things each day . Plus she just wanted to get out of the house every day .
Just say “ The groceries are being delivered soon . It saves time “. I do get wanting to browse the grocery store for something new every so often . My Mom liked to browse the frozen food section . I took her sometimes , otherwise I did her grocery shopping .
Unless one has a Walmart + membership that covers the delivery cost (still costs to be a member) grocery delivery can add up.
Example, Giant Eagle charges $9.95 for delivery, not including a tip. There also is a $35 minimum cost for delivery (which adds up fast). if you want to tip the driver say $5. That's $15 added on to the total cost of the order
Instacart, you not only pay for delivery and tip (if you want), but many items are more expensive then getting them yourself. I guess Instacart gets a cut and the driver themselves, since they not only deliver the groceries but shop for them as well.
