Honey Calendula Lotion by Kiss My Face. Great for any skin condition-dryness, rash, shingles, psoriasis, wound care. Very thick, so may need to water down for some uses. Everyone I've used for ends up purchsing more. Very inexpensive, in pump bottle or travel size. Available most healrh and natural food stores. If not found anything containing calendula very good. Why not try old fashion corn starch. Used it on my babies and my husband use to get rash on thighs in summer from sweat. Corn starch will clear it fast. Don't hurt to try.
Research incontinent wear, some brands wick moisture away. I found a lot of information in the customer product reviews on Amazon. My husband sleeps for 16 hours straight and has not had any rashes (knock on wood). Since I switched to a more expensive brand, I spend less money per month and have no leakage.
Desitin or balmez has an adult cream which I thought worked well. Anytime I changed my mom when she was soaked I would make it a point to wash and dry her well. At night I would do a quick bottom wash with soap squirted in water then put cream in and do the same in the morning. We had great results with this routine. I noticed that the ointments and creams provided by hospice are sold at Walmart. Convalec was one of the brand names. Good luck.
Do not use a talc. It is drying. Use Desitin or a Vaseline petroleum-based cream. Diaper rash happens because the diaper (or Depends) has been kept on too long. The ammonia in the urine irritates the skin. Another suggestion would be to find a 99% gel of Aloe Vera to put on the skin. It is natural, healing, cooling, and is non-toxic. I bought mine at Sprouts. I also use a great deal of Arnicare, which is arnica montana, a homeopathic cream which is great for bruises, and healing itching skin...it is great! (You can buy this at Walmart). Be sure to not scrub the skin with a washcloth as it could tear the skin. Just use soap and water. Any antibacterial soap is not good in this area. Use something like Ivory.
Boudreau's butt paste.can be found in most diaper rash/baby area's-Walmart included. It's actually zinc oxide .was recomended by one of our caregivers on here. works wonders !!!!
everytime I take my mother to the rest room or change her diapers, I wipe her down with a damp cloth with baby oil on it. in the evening...before I put her last diaper on before bed, i clean with the baby oil...then apply vaseline on the top of the thigh areas and the buttocks. she has never had a rash or dry skin the the last 3 years.
My Mom's aides use the butt paste. She has a daily shower and washes up in the evening before going to bed. Better to change the diaper several times a day whether it's wet or not. Would YOU want to wear a wet diaper for hours? I know they're expensive, but worth it compared to getting rashes. Especially for women, who can easily get urinary tract infections.
Coloplast Sween Moisture Barrier. It's a little pricey but is the best I've found. They also have one that's anti-fungal. I get it on Amazon. Also used this for wound care. It's great. Good luck
I have found that Desitin or equivalent works best to treat and prevent diaper rash. However, if a stage 1 or 2 pressure sore is present, use A&D ointment on that spot instead of Desitin.
Hi Sandy70 - We had the same problem here. Our home health nurse recommended Calmseptine. It's an over-the-counter cream. It worked like a charm! You might give that a try!
I like to use any zinc ointment and one with pink in it from calamine for my Mom, like Calmoseptine (sp?) to create a barrier and heal rash from the briefs.
Wow, so many great ideas. I know we are mainly talking about the put area however I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the above on men in the groin area? My dad is heavyset and was prescribed Fluticasone proprionate and we have been using for 2 years, gets a little better then blood red a few days later. Dermatologist basically said this is something he will have to live with. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The Fluticasome proprionate cream that you describe the doctor prescribed can be quite strong. It's good stuff, but I was told to use it in very small doses. And not to use long term. I might check with a dermatologist and find some other options if he does need a prescription strength med. Even on healthy skin, that cream is strong enough to irritate, IMO.
Rosebush, that sounds excruciatingly uncomfortable for him. I would think that anything you have been using that long without helping is hardly worth continuing. Is the doctor you have seen a dermatologist? I think I would be prepared to try something drastic, when babies have a terrible rash they sometimes recommend leaving them without a diaper for long periods, is there any routine to your dad's incontinence so that you could just leave him in loose boxers for a few hours every day... keeping the area dry would be the main focus. BTW, is he by chance diabetic? It seems yeast infections often plague those who have trouble controlling their blood sugar. And I agree with the people who use zinc oxide creams, they heal, soothe and create a barrier all in one.
Butte Paste-really- and Aquaphor are good stand by's that are basically zinc based. There is a French line Mustela-for mothers and babies but great for adults too that has amazing natural products, what you are looking for in several versions-weights- and PhysiObébé that is an awesome, rinse free cleanser-if you can find it... check online-some Target's carry it but not the entire line. Every nurse I have had use this loves it and wants nothing else after! I use it myself -very gentle and super hydrating.No need for lotion after this for cleansing.A little goes a long way! I would check Amazon for best prices. As said before please no talc products they cause cancer and many are being recalled and there is a class action lawsuit against Shower to Shower, Johnson's so look for talc FREE!
