The police did not follow through investigation.. Police report was made and they never followed up on the theft because this sister lives in a different county than my parents. they also went to the bank and took my Dad who has dementia with paperwork to submit to take my mother off the bank account and they forged her name without her knowledge. The mother and daughter sat in the car while they sent my Dad in with the paperwork.

Maybe the police discovered that dad is not connected to reality. My MIL just told me she walks 2 miles and goes up and down stairs with no problem. In truth, she is bedridden, with total left side paralysis from stroke.

Your dad didn't need any paperwork at all to take your mom off of their accounts. Truth be told, her name COULD NOT be "taken off." The only way to do that would have been for dad to set up a new account in his name only and then empty their joint account and deposit the money in his own. If their account together was a standard joint account, he would not have needed to forge her signature. Her signature wouldn't have been required. So, I'd ask, "What paperwork did he take into the bank?"

Any signatures that would have been necessary at the bank would have had to be signed in person. Why and how was her signature forged.

In order to cash in annuities in both of their names or just in mom's name, the company issuing the annuity would have required a signature medallion -- available in person only at a bank after showing state identification.

JC, who told you this happened? If it was your Dad who told you this, remember he has dementia and it is quite common for those with dementia to tell stories of things that never happened.
