So my mom had her NPI and was recommended to enter Memory Care. Unfortunately only 2 in the area both full with waiting lists. Numerous skilled nursing homes but they won’t take her based on the NPI report. Geriatric specialist has added 5 mg melatonin before bed and added 1/2 25 mg seroquil in the morning so far no improvement. Medicaid takes three months. I have a month to move her.

Does your State Medicaid pay for Memory care? I think in most States its private pay and Medicaid will not cover it. My State u have to pay privately for at least 2 yrs before Medicaid pays. My Mom was placed in a NH with advanced Dementia. Otherwise, she was healthy. Dementia and the need for 24/7 care got her in. Her doctor had to sign off.

Not sure if Medicaid takes 3 months or that is the amount of time they give you to spend down assets, get them the info needed and get the recipient placed. With me, I applied for Medicaid in April, Mom was placed May 1st. She paid May and June privately. June I confirmed the caseworker got all the info needed and Medicaid started July1st.

You need to talk to a NH. Ask what you need to do to get Mom placed. I thought that a doctor saying she needed 24/7 care and her having Dementia is enough. Then ask if she can be placed with Medicaid pending.

Talk to a Medicaid caseworker. Ask if it does take 3 months or is it how fast you can get them the info needed to place Mom.
