It is hard to get out right now and this patient goes through periods of just not being motivated to find things to accomplish. Sometimes it leads to not cooperating and occasional outbursts. I try to suggest a to do list and create things to look forward to.
Fresh ideas welcome!

Not everyone is interested in accomplishing tasks all the time! If he likes playing games, or watching tv, or doodling on a pad,,,,,let him do it. Not sure what level of dementia you're dealing with, but at any stage, it can be difficult to engage them in anything for more than a very short while. You can always do a search for activities to occupy a dementia patient for ideas.

Lower your expectations of him and perhaps things will get easier. If not, and you feel like real depression is at play here, contact his doctor for meds. Mostly everyone is in a bit of a funk these days....2020 has been particularly gruesome for many of us.

Best of luck!

I just read your profile. You’re in a sticky situation with this guy being your roommate.

He needs a lot of care. Do you feel like you are in over your head in this situation?

I certainly would be uncomfortable, especially since you have your own health issues.

Can you give us some history on your relationship? You say that you have been caring for him for awhile. Why? Do you need a roommate for financial reasons?
