My sister passed away last night, and I'd like to give something to the LTC facility staff who have cared for her. My mom is at this facility also, so I will still see the staff regularly, but I want to do something to honor and thank them for the care of my sister. There are many staff (kitchen, facilities, CNAs, etc) so it's hard to do something personal for each one. I'm thinking of writing a letter to all and sending with a large flower arrangement. But I'm not sure. Any other ideas?

Find Care & Housing
I bring a couple dozen bagels, cream cheese and butter a few times a year to the staff to show appreciation for the work that they do.

Thank you everyone - this was very helpful feedback. I think I'm going to do individually wrapped decorated sugar cookies for every staff member (I asked the facility business manager for the total number of all employees across all shifts) with her initial and a pre-printed thank you note attached on each one and a longer thank you letter delivered with them.

I’ll be the “odd man out” as I LOVE flowers. I’d take a huge bouquet of flowers over donuts but that’s just me 😄 One thing I’ve noticed at my mom’s ALF is family members who had a loved one at the facility upon passing will bring flower arrangements from the funeral to the facility. The arrangements get placed in the commons area and they brighten up the area. Plus it’s a lovely reminder of the person who lived there.

You are right. When my Mom passed, we brought funeral bouquets to the Assisted Living Facility. They were happy we thought of them.

I"m sorry about the loss of your sister. It is very kind of you to be thinking of the nursing home staff at this time. I agree that a handwritten note and some food treats would be appreciated.

I will add this...
If there are any staff members that have gone out of their way or have made a lasting impression please write letters /. notes to each individual.
Let them know how much you appreciated their kindness,
One letter / note should be given to the person and a copy to be given to administration to be put in the employee's personnel file

Donut shop donuts are always appreciated.

Hard working folks love a treat with some coffee!
I used to stop on the way in to work to get fresh donuts for my bosses,
who also LOVED them.

Donuts and cupcakes are easy to eat, individual servings and spread less germs!
A small reward for hard jobs done well.

I agree with others who have posted, food is better than flowers. A nice box of chocolates, a box of donuts, if you can't afford every shift don't worry a hand written note on a card goes a long way. We post them on our unit, if you have the obituary card include it with your card and note. Everyone who comes by reads the cards and its nice to have the picture to remember them by

Prayers and Blessings to the caring staff. Many facilities probably have high turnovers so those that cared for a loved one could be gone.

Ask the Director of Nursing what you can do. Its going to be hard to cover 3 shifts unless your there for each one. When Mom was in AL I dropped off things I had baked to the break room. At the NH I would drop things off at the Nurses Station in Moms wing.

When my husband was in the hospital, the staff on his hall were very caring. He had hospital induced delusions and paranoia.
I purchased some pre-packaged snacks and brought it to them. Sliced fruit package, cut veggies & dip package, boxed donuts, and pre-packaged trail mix. And a card of thanks. I tried to get both healthy and comfort snacks.
I've learned that for hard working folks, having a snack available in the break area was really appreciated.

Whatever you do, you should do it for all 3 shifts and specifically for the kitchen and cleaning staff, they never get much acknowledgement and they are vital for a good facility.

I am so sorry for your loss. May The Lord give you strength, peace and comfort during this sad time.

Flowers are nice, but if I was working, baked good would be really nice, even Dunkin donuts.

That's just me anyways.
