I am trying to retrieve my sick uncle's medical records. When he was living on his own he had a family physician in New Mexico but now that he is moving to New York state and Assisted Living we need to change doctors. Unfortunately the NM doctor moved out of state and her practice is closed and we are unable to find someone who can help us locate where his medical records went. Any ideas where I can start looking?

Try contacting the New Mexico Medical Board, they should have the records or know where they are stored.

Trying locating the NM "medical society" or "medical association" and give them a call. Hopefully they would have the information as to if that NM doctor had sold her practice to someone new and they have all the records. Usually a notice is sent to the patient but as I know, some elders will toss those letters out, or it's buried in a pile of papers somewhere.

If none of the above work, contact the local hospitals to see if the NM doctor had practicing rights at the hospital and if they know where she went.

Hopefully when you do find the records, they are all now electronically stored.
