Wife has wandered off several times during 2022 , started to experience sundowners in early 2022, was always asking to go home , and was at times really agitated and combative. Her last time wandering was on December 17,2022 when she left the house on a snowy night at midnight.Fortunately. I discovered this quickly and she was ok . Since then She hasn’t wondered , never asks to go home, there are no sundowners episodes - she’s very calm , placid and seemingly relaxed. In the last 6 weeks we have discontinued Aricept,
Ativan and reduced Depakote from 625mg to 250 mg and started her on 25 mg of seroquel two weeks ago.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar and does this change last a while or is it temporary??
Thanks

She may have just progressed into a different phase of her dementia.

When my mother started with dementia symptoms, she'd ask the same question several times in an hour, but eventually she stopped doing that as her dementia progressed. The farther along she went, the quieter she got. Eventually the brain just can't form the thoughts, or the words, or the actions, and there's nothing left but to just sit quietly.

Maybe it was her meds and now reduced she is better.

Everyone's bodies are different and so each individual won't have the same experience or reaction to the same meds. No one can predict with certainty what she will do in the near future.

Therefore the most important concern is if she starts to wander again. I live in MN and it's still very much winter here. Don't let your guard down just because she's had a (most likely) temporary change in behavior. Please make sure she cannot leave your home without you knowing it. I know you are taking good care of her!
