Milestones and speed of MSA?


I know, I know! "It depends...it's different for every person... Follow the forum etc..."


But it would be nice to know other people's experiences.


What are the "milestones" to be expected, in what order (if any order at all), do these "milestones" follow each other quickly, and so on. Yes, yes, "It depends...it's different for every person...etc."


Our experiences are all different, but they are all alike- we fight the same monster. And our fights are all the same.


What have been the experiences of others? To identify, not compare, as some of us say (yeah, I'm one of them!).

You know the life expectancy is about 6 years but some pass at 3, some can go 10. I understand wanting a timeline of some sort. I am guessing at the advanced stage 18 months might be a best guess. Some people think any additional illness or trauma can speed progression. I believe this to be true. It is pretty universal to go from walking to cane to rollater to wheelchair. This can happen within a matter of months from one to the next. Therapy can try to maintain what you have but not forever. It is said that within 5 years of diagnosis expect to be using a wheelchair.

I think you’ve pretty much answered your own questions. Keep in mind that all our experiences ARE different and it DOES depend on the individual. We all would tell you to follow the forum. Rates of decline are all different. Go to www.msatrust.org.uk. This is an excellent and very educational website
