My husband has Alzheimer's. I am caring for him. We have no friends or relatives and do not attend church or social events. It has been just the two of us. I am 75 and am going blind. Since I do all of the shopping and medicine, where can I look for us to live? Do any assisted living places take a couple like us?

Assisted living is not for people with Alzheimer's. Your husband needs memory care. You and your husband need different levels of care. Find a community that has multiple levels of care.

X, some Independent Living facilities have very nice apartments where a couple can live. And depending on your husband's stage of Alzheimer's, he would need to be evaluated to see if he could live in the IL side of a facility. I've seen couples where my Dad had lived where one had noticeable memory issues and the spouse didn't. As long as the spouse is able to manage the other spouse, they could stay in IL.

Look for a IL facilities that offers optional levels of care. With an added cost you and your husband could get more care.

Depending on your retirement funds, if your husband needs a higher level of care, he could move to the Memory Care section and you can stay in IL for awhile. Or you could find a place that has a large enough room for a couple to live in in the Memory Section. It would still give you free rein to go over to the IL for any activities or to chat with friends you have made.
