If a nursing home gets my Social Security and retirement checks who picks up the rest if that doesn't cover the cost?

Chances are the rest would be covered by Medicaid... but first you would need to apply and be accepted by Medicaid.

I do get this question from patients at a nursing home. They want to know how they cover their house payment, taxes and car insurance and utilities. I have to tell them the hard fact that there is NO money for any of those things. Nope, not a dime, it all goes to the nursing home. I tell them the friend/relative still living in the house has to pay the bills now. I tell them to sell the car to a grandchild who agrees to make payments to them monthly. It's very upsetting to them.
