If a husbands social security check is approximately $300 more than the wifes social security, after he passes does the wife continue to receive her social security or does she get the husbands amount? Is she allowed to refuse the higher amount if she wants to?

Her daughter in law suggested it because she doesnt want to go in a nursing home and the extra 300 will disqualify her from waiver. I dont agree with this but Im not saying anything. I do accounting for my boyfriend and Im just trying to figure out a proper overhead number he needs to bid his jobs at before i start my job.

She will still receive her check, but with an additional $300 to equal what her husband was receiving before his death. Why would she want to refuse the higher amount?
