Sleeping for two days straight after dialysis?

My step-father was on it for 6 years, how he did it is beyond me, he had no life, was exhausted, slept a lot and at times confused.

Now my mother age 99 is in stage 4 renal failure and the doctors have the bright idea of her being placed on dialysis...the answer is no, not going to happen.

Yes, it does extend ones life, if one can call that living.

So much more going on with Mark, Doggiemom, that you can't gauge how much of this is due to dialysis and how much isn't. I would never undergo dialysis. To me the quality of life ends with it. It is too much for limitations on your life, for being in hospitalized (or clinic) situation so often, and to feel dreadful before, exhausted after with perhaps one day or so you can call your own. This is to say nothing of all of the rest of the body being affected by the ports, infections and so on.

I would say that your doctor knows your hubby's own particular case and all the vagaries involved, so he/she is the best guide for such questions.

Peggy, I don't disagree it takes a ton out of the body, but it was Mark's wishes to be on dialysis. I was skeptical, but they told him it could extend his life since he was not on total kidney failure, but low enough he needed it plus he had tons and tons of fluid all over his body, including lungs. They are still draining fluid from the lungs EVERY session. I have heard people tell me they can barely move after dialysis.
