My dad is string to cry when I'm talking to him. I have never found him crying when he is alone. Could this be depression starting? I'm also worried about side effects of anti depression, are they worth the risks? Do anti depression medication have too many negative side effects in elderly dementia?

If he has sudden, unexplained, uncontrollable crying it may be a condition called PBA. My wife who has PD & Lewy Body Dementia suddenly started crying (some people have the condition with laughing) and was diagnosed with PBA when she started taking Nuedexta she stopped the crying and that's been about 6 months ago now.
