Mom, almost 90, is in independent living. Very anxious about everthing. My MIL recently had MRSA after surgery, mom kept thinking that MIL would die from it. A week ago, mom was dxed with a UTI, turned out to be MRSA. Question is, do we tell her after the fact that it was MRSA? We've been trying to get her to understand that she's got to use more sosp, hand sanitizer, etc, due to germs. Wonder what the collective wisdom here is.

What she doesn't know can't hurt her... What she does know may put her anxiety through the roof and cause great distress! I personally wouldn't tell her...

I totally agree with LuAnnSmith. My mother-in-law had frequent UTI's and C-Diff. We would just tell her she has a "really bad infection this time" and it's going to take a stronger antibiotic - otherwise she would just obsess about it and drive herself, and us, crazy thinking she was dying, etc. Good luck!

I too agree with them both. My father was in the hospital for a UTI in late Feb. After being on Antiobiotics for a week he was then hospitalized for the UTI and Pnemonia. The UTI was some Super Bug so they had to cath him and cleanse his bladder 2x a day for a week, UGH, It was very painful for him.
We just told him that he had an infection. He has Dementia, and he was really having a tough time. He pulled through, but there were times we were not sure if he would..
I would refer to his illness while he was in the hospital as the "infection"
