My husband has Alzheimer's and recently had emergency surgery. He is now in rehab for about another week to get balance back. He has a one on one aide. Am I wrong to think about taking 2 days to go away before he gets home probably next week. I am full time caregiver with two afternoons a week off. It's been three weeks since his surgery and he's doing well.

Thank you. I told rehab staff I'm going to beach for a couple days. Even though winter just watching will refresh me

If he's doing fine in the SNF, I don't see why not. It really depends on every person's situation. For me, when grandma was in rehab, I had to be there 9 hours a day to make sure things happened like she got fed and watered. Otherwise the food or water would just sit there on the tray untouched. In your case, he has a personal aide so that should be taken care of.

You are doing the right thing. Treat this as a respite—for you. Enjoy your 2 days away and rest assure, your husband will be fine. He won’t be alone, he’ll be in a rehab facility with other patients and staff tending to him
