He is in a regular room now and still completely out of it and today I get to the hospital and he is foaming at the mouth ... Please give me any advice you have. Foaming at the mouth sounds like a seizure. That could be caused by a spike in fever.

You need to be there when the doctor is and tell him you need answers.

That sounds terrible. I do sympathize with you and your dad. I'm not sure what I would do. Have you discussed it with his doctors? Have they provided prognosis, course of treatment, etc. I know that sometimes there are antibiotic resistant bacteria that are hard to beat. Have they said why things went downhill so fast?

What are the doctors saying? Do you have a trusted physician that can help, maybe they have privileges at this hospital and can come see your dad and read his chart to help you understand what is happening and if he should be transferred.

My dad was hospitalized with pneumonia and it ended up with sepsis. I think a compromised immune system is the culprit. It is so hard as we age, sometimes it is a small thing that takes us out. I am not saying pneumonia is small, my 52 year old sister died from pneumonia and I found out that it is still a major killer.

Have you researched what could be happening? Have you talked with his doctors or nurses? Be a persistent pain, be nice but keep asking until you understand, if they won't help you understand, call the hospital that you want him transferred to and ask them how you get him moved. He will need medical transport and the insurance company doesn't cover that unless you have a specific policy for that, find out how much and if the recieving hospital arranges it.

I am sorry that you are going through this and I pray your dad recovers soon.
