I currently have POA for my mother that has ALZ and lives in a facility. I wonder if it would be better for me to become her legal guardian. Does one legal status override another regarding health and financial decisions?

Guardianship is a judicial act and would override POA which is not judicial. If you have financial and health POA, you basically are the guardian without the cost. there might be some advantages of guardianship relative to taxes which would require input from a CPA type.
