A few weeks ago, I fell and landed really hard on my left shoulder. It hurt really bad for a few days, but I iced it a lot and slowly but surely that brought me some relief. I decided not to see a doctor which was probably a mistake. It was hurting less and less and the other day, I lifted something heavy and I felt and heard a tear. It hurt like h***. Now, I have severe pain starting up at my shoulder going all the way down to my elbow. I basically have no use of that arm now. I went and got an x-ray the day it happened and my shoulder is not broken. I have an MRI scheduled for next week. I know you guys aren't doctors, and like I said, I am going to the doctor next week. I am just wondering if anyone else on here has experienced anything similar to this and what it was caused by and how it was treated.

When I injured my shoulder I was amazed at how much pendulum circles helped (I call it the elephant trunk manoeuvre🐘😀), but my injury wasn't severe so this may not work for you. You can look it up but what you want to do is stand bending forward at the waist (you may want to put your other arm on a chair for balance) and allow your injured arm to hang straight down, then slowly, gently move the arm side to side, forward and back and around in a circle. Don't try to actively move the shoulder, instead move your body and let gravity move the joint. Hope this helps!

You could see a chiropractor really soon.
Combine that with the diagnostics you have scheduled, but in the meantime, a chiropractor could be treating you...pick a good one whose focus is correcting your physical injuries.

They can't get me in for the MRI until August 3rd!!!! I am VERY DISCOURAGED!

That would be fast in my area for non emergent. What have they told you to do meanwhile? Are you wearing a sling?

MRI will show the problem. Could have a torn rotator cuff. Shoulders are notorious for being slow to heal. Good luck. Hope you'll update and hope you won't need surgical intervention.

Whatever it is, please make certain you follow your doctor's instructions in regards to any PT that might get prescribed.

My mom injured her shoulder in a fall and didn't go to a doctor for treatment and ended up with frozen shoulder. When she was in rehab after a hospital stay, part of her PT was to help her with her shoulder (even though she had waited too long and it would never be what it had been) and while doing the PT she did get some range of motion back...but the second she was home, she refused to continue with the PT ("it hurts") and lost any range of motion she had gotten back.

Even once you're back to normal, you should seek out some sort of exercise regimen to continue. The shoulder is the most unstable joint in your body; weight training will help build the muscles around it to keep it stable. It's so worth the money to hire a personal trainer for a few sessions to show you the right exercises to do and the proper way to do them. My husband and both of my kids are competitive swimmers, and they are super careful about shoulder strengthening - and even with that, my daughter has had 2 separate surgeries on one shoulder from injury.

Look up "rotator cuff tear" and brachial plexus tear".

Get yourself to one of the Urgent Care sites that has the ability to X-ray.
the longer a tear is left the more difficult it is to repair.
Better safe than sorry.
(If your insurance does not charge more to go to the hospital ER go there where they can do both X-ray and MRI if it is needed. With my insurance the co pay is double unless you are admitted if you go to the ER)
