Oh my goodness. This must be extremely stressful to you.

If you can provide some additional information you may get some more specific answers. (How old is he, What was he in the hospital for, Does he have a caregiver, Does he have family involved in his care, Does he have dementia, etc.)

Without knowing the details I suggest you contact Adult Protective Services and explain the situation to them. Competent adults are allowed to make their own decisions, even very bad decisions, but adults considered "vulnerable" need some guidance and protection. I don't know if APS can do anything in this situation, but contacting them is something you can do to try to help.

I'd call the police non-emergency number and ask them to do a welfare check on him. Our town is always happy to do that -- I've done it for my mom when she still lived at home. Explain what's going on to the dispatcher, and they'll quiz him a bit; may recommend APS themselves...

Call 911. They can handle it.
