I'm sure people have no family could use that more. I heard them all. I would feel so guilty since I am home on disability. But when I happen to have to go out I caught her trying to go downstairs by herself. So she tries my patience all the time.
Respite care is when the person needing care is taken in to care temporarily. This gives those caring for them long term get a respite from caring so they can have a deserved break. It doesn’t matter whether home on disability - everyone needs a break - much like workers get holidays.
Some have Day centres so that the person in need of care can go for a few hours to give carer a break plus get used to the routine, that way, should you need longer they are already used to staff etc.
Repite is usually a week week or two - unless they need longer ie recovering from a fall or operation where they don’t need to be in hospital but not advisable they return home yet.
Volunteers who sit with a person who needs Ho needs care or monitoring are very useful when, as you’ve mentioned, the carer needs to go out but needs someone keeping an eye on the person in their care.
Not a question about who needs it more - everyone needs to be able to deal with their own needs too.
