Why don't you share your story with someone at the embassy and ask that they coordinate with Indian officials at home to alert them to the need to have insurance if they emigrate to the US?

anuragsaran123, so sorry to hear about your Mom's medical condition. Once Mom gets out of the hospital and on the road to recovery, have your brother sign her up with a health insurance company. Thank goodness pre-existing conditions are no longer an issue when getting health insurance.

I have a good friend who was born and raised in India and is now a U.S. citizen living here in the States. Whenever her husband's parents come to visit, her husband and his sisters all chip in to purchase them Kaiser health insurance as the parents visits here are usually long. Boy they were glad they did that, as the father was pushing 90 years old and had numerous visits to the hospital and rehab while visiting here.

I suggest your brother contact INS to see if there is any help for immigrants; the staff may know of some resources. Also ask the social worker at the hospital. I assume your mother has a green card?

Weren't any arrangements made by your brother when your mother emigrated from India?

I'm sure there will be responses from other good people here, but unfortunately your mother's options are limited if she's not a citizen. Sorry.
