Repeating statement constantly and asking for help. How to handle this?

My mother who is suffering from atypical parkinsons (either Lewy body or Vascular dementia), has been constantly repeating the same phrase over and over again - saying that she cannot walk and cannot handle this anymore. She keeps calling our names for help and refuses to sit in a place for more than a few minutes. This behavior has just started over the last couple of days, so we are not sure if we need to reach out for medical help or how to handle this. No amount of distracting seems to help.

Thanks to your suggestions. I checked with her physician who suggested first calming her down with an extra dose of her anti-anxiety medication. That helped tide her over whatever was bothering her and she has not gotten into that state since. Along the same lines, how would you handle the following situation. Because she is restless, she attempts to walk all the time but because of her parkinsonian symptoms, her unsteady gait increases her anxiety of falling. She keeps asking how she can improve her gait and is fixated on that. How can I handle this situation without scaring her?

Get her to the ER and checked for stroke.

New symptoms and changes in behavior should be reported to Mom's doctor. That doesn't necessarily mean the doctor will do anything, but sometimes there may be suggested responses and it is good to establish the history in the medical record.

What your Mom is going through is very normal for dementia. The more you know about dementia, the better it will be understanding what is going on.
