I'm my mothers POA. Her car is registered to her however, I'm the primary driver as she doesn't drive anymore. I need to renew her registration and realized that her state ID (not drivers license because when we moved to NJ from NY she didn't want to drive anymore) expired in April of this year. How do I go about taking care of all this as her POA? I cannot seem to find any information on the DMV website. I assume I have to do everything she would do and just bring the POA as proof. Does anyone know?

Bring her to the DMV because they take a picture for the non driver ID.
NY registrations can be renewed on line, instructions are on the renewal as well as the website.

Thank you. Also I read your story about how mom wants her funeral done exactly how she'd do it. What a good laugh it gave me. Thanks for sharing.

If ...I stress IF ... in the future my ADW ,,,, becomes bed-ridden... will she need a ID and how would she get one. She would be a sensation rolling into a registry office in a wheel chair.

I don't know about NJ because I live in Washington State. They have a good website with answers to many questions, and you can call the office for your location and get help with your questions also. There are many, many elderly and disabled people with IDs rather than licenses, so I'm sure your problem is not unusual to them!

I took my mom to the DMV to get an ID and turn in her DL. They wanted a ton of stuff including her birth certificate. So I went home, got online and renewed her DL! Insane I know and she never used it to drive but they want to make your life difficult and you sometimes can get around all the BS paperwork!

glad it worked out. I was going to say here in MD I had no problem. Just took my POA and their expired lics. to the DMV They got pictures taken and on our way.But I will say none of thier drs cared if thier lisc, was expired for the ID issue. They just needed a photo ID. For the car issue of renewal.. we had the car sold to me. and I put it on my insurance and no problems.
