My wifes parents, One has cancer,One is disabled needs a wheel chair. No other sibling is willing too help. They live in VA we live in PA there other family lives in NJ. Us moving too them is not going too work in this housing crisis. What if we built a modest or small one bedroom apartment on our property any advise??????

With no experience, I think I would want it to be attached to your house. There will be many 2 AM trips to care for them, often through rain or cold. Make the doors wide enough for a wheelchair.
