The other day my other grandfather I guess brought up the suggestion of a possible short term stay at a nursing (convalescent) facility for my grandmother. I know this isn’t my business and I try not to be involved in decisions like these but I do agree with my other grandfather that she could just “try it” (if they do short term stays). What happened to my grandmother obviously changed our family’s life and we just want the best for her and hopefully they will be talking about a convalescent facility in the near future

As said ALs may offer respite care. I have heard that LTC facilities, may if they have a bed available. But, it will be private pay.

Many assisted living facilities offer respite care. I know people who utilize this service while they as caregivers go on much needed vacations.

Assisted living may not offer the care that she needs. You will have to inquire about it.

To go into a SNF a person needs to have a doctor write an order that it’s medically necessary and they must be able to pay. Usually it requires that certain ADLs can’t be performed by the patient.
There are different levels of care available for less cost than a SNF. Assisted Living, memory care, independent living facilities. Sometimes folks go to a SNF for respite care for the caregiver. Depending on their insurance. Medicare does not pay for room and board.

Her grandmother definitely qualifies for LTC. Read the OPs other posts just make sure you aren’t eating.....
