First of all thankyou for responses.. To be clear, I am my mother POA. I was clear when signing admittance paperwork for said SNF that my mother was on MEDICAID. A " Cost Share Protection Plan" to be exact. And she is QMB. My mother has no assets, no credit report to worry about. She has dementia and has no idea any of this happening. I am not " Worried" about it as much as im am weary of it all. Worn out from the journey with my mother for the last few years has been heart breaking and stressful. She's finally peaceful in an AFH. I am a responsible adult who has properly taken care of my mothers finances And I alway will. I pay my bills and have a good credit score.. Having a " company " coming after me constantly is Stress I don't need. INSURANCES HAVE paid for the FULL time she was there! I CANNOT seem to shake these idiots off and No one seems to want to help me.. I thought asking here would present some ideas..Thankyou..

Find Care & Housing
Is the SNF hounding you or a collection agency. Collection agencies are ruthless. They bought the debt. The FTC is very strict in how they can collect the money.

You may need a lawyer to inform the SNF or the collection agency that Mom now resides in a LTC facility on Medicaid. What income she has goes to help offset the cost of her care with Medicaid picking up the balance. Since a judgement cannot be put against her SS, this balance of $3000 is uncollectable. Please cease-and-desist calling her daughter, who is in no way personally responsible for this debt.

Usually once an agency or facility is told a person is on Medicaid, they write off the loss. Your credit score will not be effected by Moms debts. You cannot be held responsible for Moms debts. All I can say is notify the FTC and file a complaint.

Next time you receive a call, tell them not to call you again, if they do, your will be reporting them to the FTC. Once you ask for no more phone calls they are required by law to stop calling you.

The internet is full of information on "Collectors" and what they legally can do and cannot. If you truly want to fix them good you can collect the wrong times and dates they are illegally contacting you and you can sue. But as POA you would be suing in your mother's behalf. I doubt you would get far, and speaking of stress, THAT would be a good deal of stress. These collectors are well aware over time of the laws in their state and federally. They don't care. They know it is more hassle for you to address it than it is worth. Eventually they WILL give up. Meanwhile there are the phones and the letters and it is simply on you to handle that in your own mind. It is moments, seconds really in time to hang up on a caller. They are doing a job. They don't care about you or mom or any of it. They are simply doing a job, and need to slot in their call to keep their job.

If stress now is so awful I would seek help for it. There are some things that can be taken off your plate by working with a cognitive therapist (like this). There are some things that cannot (like mom's long journey--one we have been on with our folks as well).

Believe it or not, we are trying to help. I personally am trying to make you see that this isn't important enough to waste two minutes of your day on. You know the facts. No one is in danger. It's a pest, like a buzzing fly that got into the house. Briefly.
So please, help yourself by just not giving it any more of your precious energy, which you just can't afford to waste.
I truly am so sorry for all you're going through.

I have a daughter who suffers mightily in life due to a feeling that there is a right and a wrong, and that they "SHOULD do it RIGHT". I agree with her. They SHOULD. But when they won't, you just have to settle for knowing that most stuff ends up in the murky grey areas we just have to make the best of, or drive ourselves off the cliff.

For context, here is your prior post:

Call Medicaid and stay on hold until you talk to an actual person, then ask why the SNF is hounding you/your Mom over payment.
