They don't understand Parkinson's and therapy dept complains she won't participate they don't see she can't. She is starting to have issues with a straw. When the offs occur this is my mom 82 yr. old who wants to live and walk. She went to this same place 3 times and the only therapists who helped her is gone. I was called to a meeting and honestly felt like I was talking to 3 stooges. I am tired of their attitude and I begged them to walk her room door maybe 15 ft. She was made a hoyer lift because she can't and they assume she won't. I feel like I have to find someone who can help her. She has had pnuemonia 2 times and a UTI 2 if the truth was told she has had UTI for 13 months but local hospital looses funding and they're fined if a patient goes back to hospital in less than 30 days. My mom has been sicker this time because she has been torn down mentally by these 3 stooges and they had no clue to the offs of sinemet. I have seen the lack of care and my mom when she went in there was still putting on lipstick. It kills me. Others have told me she looks like she was torn down mentally. I feel as though they made her like this so I can't transport her anywhere but it has got to change. I feel she would rather me chain her to the car and drage her anywhere but here.

Is she in a NH? It's so hard to see a loved one suffer.

If she is having trouble with a straw or swallowing, the Parkinson's is in advanced stages. At this point walking is no longer safe for the patient. She is probably ready for Hospice. I'm sorry, that is a difficult thing to hear and absorb. The meeting was probably called to help you accept the idea that time is short. You are angry, and anger will give way to despair. Please see your doctor and share what you feel.

Ask the doctor to order home PT. Definitely don't go back to the place she hates.

Parkinson's is a progressive disease. Mom may be getting worse with no PT, with bad PT or with the greatest PT on the continent. But she absolutely should not be made to feel like this is her fault or to be mentally torn down.
