I care for my mother in a home we both share. I need to find a place she can be cared for on occasion overnight, perhaps over several days, to allow me time to join and participate more with my grandchildren and their upbringing as well as other family and friends.
I cannot consider overnight home care because she will not be comfortable being home alone with anyone she doesn't know.
Who can I contact?

Iris, respite care is wonderful and much needed.

However, PLEASE - make sure you don't wait until the last minute to try and secure it! If you're going to use a facility, in NY the patient MUST have an evaluation done by a qualified RN from within the facility she's currently residing just before placement- within 30 days - (in your case, your home!) before they can be placed. I found this our when we placed my mom in a facility in 2019 when my husband and I went on a cruise for our 25th anniversary...and it was not easy to find an RN who was qualified to do the evaluation! The form is called a PRI. In all of Orange County, there's only 2 who are qualified to do the PRI in a patient's home - that's why it's so hard to place someone in a nursing home directly from their home, generally the patient goes from a hospital setting.

If you wait until the last minute, you might not be able to find someone, and then your vacation goes *poof*! Once you find a facility with space, make very sure you ask them what you will need to get before mom goes in, and by when they need it!

Good luck!
