My Mom hears music and voices as well. She also thinks she can hear my Son play his video games even though she is in an RV outside of the house and my Son uses earbuds!

Tinnitus can cause this as well as some medications. All you can do is (at least for me) is tilt your head, listen for a minute and then say, "Hmmmm. I don't hear what you are hearing, I'll have to check it out."

Sometimes she forgets and sometimes she doesn't. Sometimes she tells me I need to have MY hearing checked! Lol!

This can be an early symptom of Lewy Body dementia or a sign of a hearing problem.

Ok, I’m going to tell a story on  myself. The furnace closet in our home is right outside my bedroom. When the furnace goes on, I SWEAR I can hear a radio playing. I hear voices, words and even music. I’ve even come out of the bedroom, scaring the bee-jayzus out of Hubby who sleeps in the family room to see if the television is on. It’s not. On New Year’s Eve at midnight, I heard Auld Lang Syne playing. It’s not the neighbor’s television. It’s the dead of winter and all windows are closed. Why would music come out of the furnace? I can understand how this lady feels about hearing music. One time I heard it’s like a computer chip in our brain that has recorded things and keeps playing it back. Who knows?

I heard a radio playing in the distance. Like you Ahmijoy I got up and tried to trace where it was coming from. I call my psych doc. She said she was looking at a recent brain scan and there is no sign of a tumor. She has treated my depression for years she knew absolutely I was not psychotic. So whatever it was, she was not the right doctor for it. I went to my PCP. Do you know what it turned out to be? One of the symptoms of my UTI. My gosh! Who would have guessed that?

No, I never tracked it down, Jeanne. I even put my ear up against the furnace closet door when it was running and heard nothing. Far as I know, I don’t have a UTI or didn’t in winter anyway. And I’m off the meds for depression b/c they weren’t working. Sometimes I wonder, with all this wireless and “wi-if” c**p we have now if it doesn’ t somehow magnify sound waves when you have them in your house. In any case, I’ve been so dang weird for so long a time that no one even blinked an eye when I told them about it, especially hubs. Oh, well...I’ve learned to live with it. At least it’s not rap music!

It is a change for her, so it would be good to tell her doctor about it.
