In October my Alz husband was approved for Medicaid and he had to join a medicaid managed care assistance program which gave him access to doctors for free and medication for free. He was also allowed to signup for long term care which included three days of day care and two days of a home health aid.
Yesterday I received a letter stating they are canceling him as of January 1 because he is ineligible. What could that mean? Nothing has changed in our financial situation. We do not have any assets that they think we could have hidden. I am going out of my mind until Monday when I call to see what happened. I really need this service for him.

Sorry no one with Medicaid experience has responded to your question. The weekends can be so busy. I hope by now you've called and received a satisfactory answer. I know you must've been upset to get that letter after thinking since October that everything was settled.

Sheilaallison1, maybe some how Medicaid found out that you and your husband went on a 6-day cruise [from a previous posting in October], could that had been factored in?

Sheila, in my experience, it's best to contact the Medicaid case worker who sent you the letter. It's generally someone local who can give you an answer, rather than calling an 800 number. I've communicated with case workers by email so that the info is there for them first thing in the morning.

I've received cancellation notices twice from Medicaid for my husband. Once was my fault -- I failed to submit some papers, and as soon as I cleared that up he was reinstated retroactively. The other was just an administrative glitch and was also cleared up promptly.

I hope it is something easy for you. Please let us know!

(FF -- I believe a cruise or travel or luxuries are perfectly OK for spend-down.)
