My daughter has cerebral palsy and spinal bifida and her spinal is getting worse. I would like to know if I can receive payment in staying home and taking care of my child, the reason is her condition interferes with my work. I am a single parent and have only one car in the home. I have no other job or help.

In Illinois, you certainly could. I'm sorry I don't know where to tell you to start, but I'd bet dollars to donuts your state has meaningful help for you and your daughter. Call your county's social services number. May take a number of phone calls to get yo the right place.be patient.

Have you applied for any kind of disability (SSI) coverage for her?

You might also check with any cerebral palsy and spina bifida groups; they might have some good suggestions or at least let you know whether assistance is possible.

Contact your local coordinating council for independent living, there are 'waiver' programs that can pay a caregiver. I don't know what the rules are for your state about who can be the caregiver, often it is family. There may also be other services she would be eligible for. Good Luck.
