My father requires almost complete care but we feel he's spending too much and it's all under the table!!!

If you hired such a person, you will live to regret it. If you let your father hire such a person you should be set in the stocks for a day to think about it. Once you regain your senses you will find him proper care.

Well, unskilled care in DC metro area is about $20-25/hour. At 24/7 that is considerable and you still have expenses of the home maintenance, meals, etc. utilities, etc of the home. In my case, it would have been less expensive for my mom to have been in a care facility. They don't want to leave their home, but skilled nursing care is even more expensive and I still had to worry about what was happening, the CNA or agency calling frequently for this or that, mom being agitated when they switched out the caregiver, etc. I worried about them being trustworthy, etc.

If he needs 24/7 care -- find a reputable place and move dad there.
