My house hold really needs the money I was making. He gives us some money for room and board. He is better now. All he wants to do is stay in his room, he stays in his bed mostly, he doesn't have any desire to go out side or go anywhere. He is a little wobbly when he walks which is seldom, we have Hospice. I am a bit concerned about leaving him by his self to long of a period of time, but like I said we really need the income I could bring in, and I get a bit board just sitting here all day because he really doesn't require a whole lot of attention.

Find Care & Housing
This is a judgement call but it sounds to me like he needs someone looking in on him and helping out. Hospice is great but they don't provide full time caregiving.

What is his financial status? Any funds? Qualify for Medicaid?

Hospice can treat him in a skilled nursing facilty which can be covered by private pay, or Medicaid.

This is going to get much tougher pretty soon. No shame or anything wrong with getting him placed and secure.

I am always in favor of caregivers getting out into the real world for a bit of respite. Only you can judge how much care your Father needs. Perhaps you can bring in an aide while you're gone, even if only part-time.

Sandy, I see from your profile that your Dad has Acute Kidney Failure, Chronic Airway Obstruction, Catenary Heart Disease, Dementia, Acute Respiratory Failure with Hypoxia and he is now on Hospice watch.

I have a feeling that Hospice may not take to kindly finding your Dad home alone, since he is mainly staying in bed except to use the bathroom, yet he gets dizzy when standing up. That is a major fall waiting to happen. I know falls can happen even if he had a caregiver in the house... but you are thinking about leaving him alone.

Since Hospice has a list of clients to see during the day, who would be able to let the Hospice persons into the house to do what is assigned, such a taking vitals, or giving Dad a sponge bath, or a volunteer to sit and talk with Dad for a half hour or so?

I can fully understand you being bored sitting at home, and needing an income. Thus other solutions need to be discussed. Windyridge above had an good idea, see if Dad can qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare], that way Dad can have around the clock care, plus Hospice can pop in whenever they are in the neighborhood. What would Dad think of that idea?

He is on Medicaid and medicare, which is his retirement. he makes less than $1000 a month, we do have Hospice nurse once a week, and one lady comes and washes his upper body, hair and shaves him, that's all he'll let her do. We can not get him to take a bath or a shower, he washes his other parts. He enjoys her coming, then a volunteer from Hospice comes and sits with him one day a week for 3 hours, their all very nice

Hello, I posted that when he first come to live with me back in March, we actually thought he was going to pass away then but he has recovered remarkably. doesn't have all of that going on now, he has recovered from most all of that, I wouldn't even bee thinking of even trying to go back to work under those circumstances!!! He eats very good now, his kidneys are functioning great also, he doesn't have any problems out of his heart, What were dealing with now is his mild Dementia and C.O.P.D
