We will soon have to sell her home and need to store her clothes/other stuff My mom is in a NH and will soon become private pay. She doesn't have a large amount of money but I would like to have a storage shed placed on my property to keep her things. Will this purchase be an allowable expense?

Allowable expense for what? Are you applying for Medicaid? I think yes, it is allowable.

But ... is the plan to sell the house, use the money to private-pay at the NH until the money runs out, and then apply for Medicaid?

Yes, the plan is to sell the house and apply for Medicaid. I was told by an attorney, I could prepay for a yr. to a storage unit but then I would not have anywhere to keep her clothes when that yr. is up. I would prefer to have her things at my house for easier access too.

I was advised to sell the house. She is widowed and will not be able to live alone since her stroke and neither me or siblings can care for her fulltime and we all have our own homes. Her house also needs a lot of work to sell due to her being widowed for 12 yrs. and not updating anything.

I know you have to be careful because every state has different guidelines to Medicaid. I was told my my eldercare law attorney that I could purchase a storage unit and use my dad's savings to pay for it. Please double check with an attorney familiar with Medicaid laws. Good luck!

where can i find a list of allowable purchases under a 5 yr. look back in reference to an irrevocable trust in CT ?
