Adult protective services. How do I protect myself?

TN Adult Protective Services took my spouse from me, after nursing home complaint. APS called estranged family members from GA, and they took my spouse and put him in a GA nursing home and closed our joint checking account and left me homeless and pennyless and I am disabled. I don't know why, APS never told me anything, and the nursing home never returned my numerous calls, over 2 months asking to see my husband. We were happily married, my husband stopped drinking after we were married, hasn't had any alcohol in 3 years. He attends church, has friends that come and visit, loves the grandchildren. What did I do to ever warrant this kind of punishment and my husband as well.The anguish and heartache I have endured, because I was never allowed to visit or talk to my husband again. I am disabled, but it has not ever stopped me from loving and caring for him. I was scheduling in home health care to come in and bath him and what ever other services we would be needing. I called the 3 assisted living homes in our area, but we could not afford them. I have no record of neglect or abuse, all bills are paid, and could afford in home health care.The estranged family that suddenly showed up and got power of attorney, husband has dementia, don't know how they were able to get that. Took him and put him in a GA nursing home and even though APS has closed case, th family in GA wont let me see or talk to him. PLEASE HELP. Thank you

Best Gardner you almost certainly need a lawyer. From what you have written it sounds like someone thought you were unable to care for your husband despite your best intentions - OR they inappropriately used your disability as an excuse to take him out of your care. I'm confused by the term "nursing home complaint" if he was at home n your care, though. If you are disabled, can you get an SSI check to live on?

bestgardner, If APS got there and you had not scheduled home care yet, they just go by what they see. It is really had to care for someone when you are disabled yourself. With little income now you should be eligible for Medicaid and HUD housing in Tennessee.
