Ever since mom started having short term memory problems, after her second hip replacement surgery. We are having problems with her not wanting to take her showers. Mom is 98 yrs. old and can still manage by herself. We are three brothers that take turns taking care all day. we help her with meds and meals. Does any one have this problem? Us forcing her to take is shower is not an option. If we were sisters, than maybe we could jump right in. We keep a calendar marked with an S to indicate when she showers. That way we know when she showered. When you ask when was the last time she showered, she will say, yesterday.

You have your hands full. That’s for sure.

Call Council on Aging in your area. Have an assessment done. They will send someone to help and assist with bathing, meal prep, sitting with her so you can take a break, tidy up her room and so on. It is free. No charge for those who qualify.

Have you thought of placing her in a facility? Caregiving only becomes more difficult, it never gets easier.

I am so sorry that you are struggling with this. Best wishes to you and your family.
