Find Care & Housing
Pixie can you tell us a little more about your mother. What is wrong with her? Can she still move her hands independently? Is the rest of her body curling up into the fetal position? There are many reasons this may happen and you can help prevent this bending and straightening her fingers and moving her wrists. Put something like a rolled up bandage in her hand to try and prevent it getting any worse. Please write again and tell us more.

If it is occurring in spasms, it points toward brain injury. If it has been gradual, it could be advancing arthritis. In either case, the MD should be made aware, so further diagnosis can lead to appropriate treatment.

In looking at Pixie's activity, it looks like her mom has Alzheimers. Since my mom doesn't have that, I don't have any specific info on what this might mean or how you might treat it in an Alzheimer's patient.
