Is it possible to have a military ceremony for my Dad - WWII vet?

Yest it is possible for your father to have military service. You can contact your local Veteran's cemetery and they can tell you how this can be accomplished. I think your local branch of the American Legion or Veteran's of Foreign War will also be able to give you information. Most likely, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs website will also have information. I worked directly with Arlington National Cemetery when I had to make arrangements for my Dad and Uncle. I don't remember the process being very complicated.

In my home town, it is done at the cemetery. But, yes, just tell the funeral home, that you are requesting the color guard.

The American Legion post local to the OP is the way to go. They were wonderful at my father's memorial service and on short notice which is the way it usually goes. It was winter so we didn't get to witness the 21 gun salute, but Taps were played and my mother was formally presented with the flag. It was very moving and honorable. the old fellow who busted out of his NH in the uk for D - day ceremonies passed away a few days ago . unless the daily mail is a lying sack of crap , his wife in the same NH died only days later .
pam, i was of the impression that military rites were done at gravesite . you dont blow bugles and fire rifles inside a mortuary .
i dont care for ceremonial crap personally . in indiana i can be " green " buried in my own little orchard if i get the proper permits . im pretty cheap , id like that .

Chicago1954, With cremation being so common today, the military service is often performed at the funeral. When it's -20 degrees and the wind is howling, it's much preferable.

Cap, Blow your impressions out of your backside. My dad died, we had his funeral and they do blow bugles in the funeral home. They did the 21 gun salute outside the backdoor of the funeral home. They shoot blanks.
