Used to go 4 times a week. I have limited her going since my house to 1 time a week. She takes out 200 everytime. I feel it's her money she can do that if she wants. My brother is ok with it but my sister n laws are enraged that I let her spend that. And also that I charge her 600 a month on rent and groceries etc... My mom still knows what she wants in the mild stages of alzheimers. My sister in laws have been so hurtful this last year but have only came around a couple of times. I am a single mom and have a business in my home. Can't afford to pay for her expenses on top of my own. I don't want any legal troubles when it comes to Medicaid and nursing homes down the road. She only has$ 50,000 in the bank and gets a pension and socialsecurity equaling 2500 a month.

Simply inform you sister in law that if she would like to take your mom in to live with her, then she can dictate how she spends her money and what she does with her time. Until then, that decision is up to you

08/25/16.... Going to the casino is a difficult issue as for many elders who go it is a form of easy entertainment for them, they make new friends among their peer group, and they look forward to seeing each other once or twice a week.

On the other side of the coin is the money issue. Chances are your Mom loses most of the $200 each week.... does she realize that is over $10k per year?

I am curious how does your Mom get to the casinos? You drive, or does she go with a bus group?

I see nothing wrong with charging your Mom $600 a month for room and board. It probably makes Mom feel good about paying her way. Make sure every expense is well documented and that you give Mom a receipt for her rent... that way you have a running tally in case Medicaid questions the $600 amount. Stationery stores have "rent receipt" books.

I take her because she had to surrender her license last November. She is 73.
