84 year old father cannot read or write. I was informed that he signed POA over to my brother and wife. No attorney was used they both have serious health problems. She's an alcoholic and recently found out that she's trying to become his payee to his Social Security. I live in a different state.

What assets are at stake? What about Medicare/Medicaid?

Contact the Adult Protective Services where your Dad lives and ask them for help. You may need an Elder Law Lawyer to represent your Dad.

How did you learn about all this?

Can't get a POA unless written by a lawyer, signed by ur father and witnessed. Dad had to be present. I wish they had to be filed with the County same with Wills. Would be so much easier for other families to confirm the POA. She won't become payee based on POA.

Tothill.. a mutual friend  shared the information with me. ..  I was  able to get confirmation from  my father he signed document giving them Authority to access his medical record and set up funeral arrangements no lawyer was present at the time he also stated he gave them $3,000 to go towards his funeral cost if something ever was to happen... when I mentioned the information about the money they both acted like they had no idea what I was talking about but my father is of sound mind there's nothing mentally wrong with him and knowing my brother and his wife logical Liars I believe my father

You should contact APS and let them investigate, unless your dad deals in cash there should be a record of the money, even if it was cash withdrawal, it would show that dad knows what he is saying. I would let APS know that dad thought he was giving them medical POA and could not read the document to know otherwise. As hard is it is to report family, elder abuse and exploitation is as bad as child abuse and the offenders need to pay for their crimes. Evil only wins when good people stand by and do nothing.
