Daisy, we need more info. How old are you, how old is your son. What kind of care has he been providing for you?

Are you on Social Security or Social Security Disability? How has son supported himself.

In PA there are programs, thru Medicaid, where an agency trains a relative or friend. They then are hired by that agency and get benefits and can then care for a LO. See if ur State has something similar. Medicaid offers in home help. Sometimes a family member can get paid. If you or your spouse are Vets and served during wartime, you may qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits. Out of those benefits you can pay ur son but it will not be alot.

When a child caregiver lives with someone and is not working to pay taxes and build their own Social Security, then that person will also be impoverished in a worse way. Possily homeless in old age. and little or no SS. Sixteen years of not working makes finding a job worse. Sorry to be so harsh. Only options are to look at each state, Medicaid, Title 19 if under 65, or VA if qualified.

In general the person being cared for pays the caregiver.
There may be some programs that if you are eligible may provide some funds to pay for a caregiver.
Forget about pay for past payments. There is no chance to get retroactive payments (unless you are talking about paperwork that has been properly filed with the VA)
Check with your local Area Agency on Aging and see if you qualify for any services.
Check your local Senior Service Center and see if they have programs.

I hope others will add to the list of possible methods for you to pay your son.
