My mom lives in AL & is at a level 3 of monthly care (over $1,000 extra a month). She was hospitalized most of December & January & is now in rehab for quite a while. I realize we should owe her base rent, but should we be required to pay for care we can’t use/don’t need? They measure by the number of times my mom would use her call button and since she’s not there, it’s been zero times in the last 2+ months.

Anyone with experience with this situation?

I agree, after 2 weeks I got a credit for any days after that for Moms care. What does your contract say. Maybe billing is not aware Mom has not been at the AL.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been to her apartment a few times to pick stuff up for her; they all know she’s away, but the main corporate billing office may not… I’ll be finding out ASAP.

Have you talked to administration. The care levels shouldn't be paid for. You are correct that they depend on the amount of care, meds, baths, and etc she needs. And right now it is a factor of holding her bed in case she is able to return. Speak with administration.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. I’ll be calling tomorrow. It’s been such an extra stressful period with her hospitalizations & bad rehab experiences, it didn’t occur to me until I saw her rent come out this month.

When my father was in rehab his AL would refund the care funds after he was gone over 14 days
