My husband had a pacemaker when he died. It had no discernible effect. The device prevents the heat rate from going outside a specific range, but it does not create the heart beat or keep it going when it stops.

My husband also had a defibrillator, which is a device that will attempt to shock the heart into restarting if it stops. He insisted on having that removed early in his journey with dementia.

DNR in place? I know they test these things by phone, so they should be able to control it one way or the other........

When my dad was dying we had his pacemaker turned off. We contacted his cardiologist and he took care of it.
